Facebook on iPhone: its second "killer app"

iphone_facebook.gifSome commentators are calling Facebook for iPhone its second killer application. Pete Cashmore at Mashable is certainly in love with it. Let’s face it - if you like Facebook and you like the iPhone, then this is a kick-ass application to get hold of.

Even if you don’t have an iPhone, you can experience what it looks like by visiting iphone.facebook.com. Full of scrolling goodness, it gives clear and easy access to all of the main features you’re likely to want to use on the move.

You don’t appear to be able to access groups, or the myriad of applications now available on Facebook, so you can’t join the “I hate Facebook” group or add a virtual fish to one of your mate’s virtual fish tanks — but you can probably wait to do that until you get back to a desktop computer.

The main reasoning for that is likely to be technical — the iPhone can’t run Flash in its Safari browser at present — but it also has the added benefit of making Facebook simple again.

From looking at it briefly, and even without a real iPhone to play with it on, I’d almost go so far as to say it’s better than the desktop version. Almost. With the right amount of ongoing development, it could be one of the best applications on the iPhone.

Oh yes, the other killer app so far is touted as Skype on the iPhone.
