Telstra in talks with Apple over Australian iPhone, CEO claims

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

Apple iPhoneAccording to a spokesman, Australia’s largest telecoms company, Telstra, is in talks with Apple concerning bringing the iPhone to the country next year.

You’ll have to excuse my reluctance to take something the CEO of any company supposedly working with Apple says, after the France Telecom cock-up, but Sol Trujillo told Sydney’s Daily Telegraph that the iPhone would offer “an enhanced experience for Telstra’s customers” and that they had been testing the device, just as they would “any device that comes into the country” (albeit unofficially).

One caveat stated by Trujillo is that Apple would need to produce special versions of the iPhone to work on their “Next G” network.

We’ll see.

Tobias Wong creates limited edition matt black iPhone

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

ccphone_black.pngTobias Wong has designed the CITIZEN:Citizen ccPhone, an iPhone variant sporting a matt black back, custom screen artwork and icons, and a biannually-updated CITIZEN:Citizen personal address book presented in vCard format.

Apparently there’s a lot of demand for a black iPhone, so if you want one, and you’ve got $2,000 to spare, you’ll need to be quick as only 50 have been made.

Let’s hope the unlocking that must’ve taken place in order to put custom icons onto the iPhone doesn’t brick it, else that’s a very expensive mistake.

This is a great program !

This simple app lets you sync your iPhone music/videos with more than one computer by keeping two iTunes libraries on the iPhone and allowing you to quickly swap between them whenever you like.

Any Developers willing to take on this Challange?

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007
I am not sure if this can be done but I would pay for it for sure. I have my iPhone running through an adapter to the back of my car stereo where the cd changer would plug in. I bought the adapter off of Ebay and it plugs into the ribbon plug on the bottom of the iPhone. My mucis plays through and sounds amazing and when my phone rings I can hear the ringer but if I answer the call, no sound. I need to pull my phone out of its holder and un plug the cord. Is it at all possible to ‘route’ the call through the bottom connector. It works through the headphone jack that I can hear the call through the speakers so there must be a way to be able to do that. I am not saying it would be easy but…..can it be done.
Thanks in advance.

Can i downgrade / install 3rd party apps…

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007
Hi, I have just bought an iphone that is on 1.1.1 and I have been informed that it has been unlocked using SOFTWARE. I was wondering if there is a safe process for me to either downgrade or install 3rd party apps. Sorry - but I am new to the community.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Apple with misplaced priorities in regards to cash only/2 limit iphone purchases?

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007
It’s pretty obvious that Apple is developing some kind of system by which they want to "record" and create a database of everyone purchasing iphones (hence the credit card purchase requirement) so that they can try and determine who might be buying them in bulk and possibly reselling them. I understand that they are trying to protect and honor their agreement with AT&T, and though I may not necessarily agree with Apple’s methods, I don’t disagree with them trying to honor a contract.

However, here is where I think Apple’s priorities and timing is misplaced. AT&T or any partner of Apple didn’t make Apple the success story that they are today, but we the consumers did. About a couple of months ago, there was a story on TV (Dateline NBC I believe), "How to catch an I-thief" where they explained how Apple had no system by which to help rightful owners of ipods (and iphones as well) find their stolen or lost devices, even though Apple obviously requires the device to be registered with an itunes account on the finder’s (or thief’s) computer. I found it incredulous that even though Apple would record the ipod serial numbers and could EASILY trace a stolen or lost ipod to the new finder’s or thief’s computer, they simply refused to do so, and I believe they cited "privacy concerns". The freaking device is stolen and yet they are protecting the privacy of the thief? Then the story went on to say that certain crimes were directly attributed to the ipod, in fact people were killed for their ipods in robberies and etc. and when the police would contact Apple for assistance on finding a stolen ipod, apple would offer no help.

Yet here we are, and apple has decided to create a database of who is purchasing more than 2 iphones………….potentially to perhaps stop those individuals from reselling them unlocked at some future point in time. And apple will not develop a system by which to minimize crimes or help us the consumers get our rightfully purchased devices back. For goodness sakes, the crime aspect alone should be reason enough for Apple to be a good corporate citizen. Thiefs would quickly realize that if the police were to track their asses down with Apple’s help, then there would be no reason to steal and perhaps kill others for these devices. I am sure these types of crimes would drop dramatically.

Apple, why not help us the consumers first by implementing a system in which we can retrieve lost or stolen devices, then help out your partners…………

Apple, what’s the story?
